3 T softened butter or margarine
2 1/2 c flour
2 T sugar
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
3/4 c buttermilk
1/3 c raisins
Turbinado sugar for dusting (optional)

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.

Cut margarine into the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda and salt until mixture resembles small crumbs. Stir in raisins and enough buttermilk to make a soft dough. Turn out onto a lightly flour surface and knead until smooth.1-2 minutes. Shape into a round loaf about 6 1/2 inches in diameter. Place on a greased cookie sheet. Cut an X about 1/4 through the loaf with a floured knife. Sprinkle top with sugar if desired.

Bake 35 to 45 minutes or until golden brown.
