2 C. flour
1/2 C. unsweetened cocoa powder
2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 1/2 C. sugar
6 tbsp. butter, softened
3 eggs
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
1 C. buttermilk
CHOCOLATE FROSTING;
5 C. powered sugar
1/3 C unsweetened cocoa powder
4 tbsp. milk
2 tbsp. butter, softened
1 tsp. vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease and flour three 8" round cake pans. Combine; flour, cocoa, baking powder, baking soda and salt in a bowl. Beat sugar and butter in a bowl of an electric mixer until fluffy. Beat in eggs and vanilla. Add flour mixture alternately with buttermilk. Spread into to pans. Bake for 25-30 minutes. Cool in pans for 10 minutes; remove and cool completely. Prepare the frosting. Place one cake on a serving plate; spread with frosting. Top with second layer and frost, then third layer. Frost top and sides. FROSTING: Beat powered sugar, cocoa powder, milk, butter and vanilla with an electric mixer. Beat in additional milk if needed.
