1/2 c Crisco shortening
1 c granulated sugar
1/2 tsp salt
2 tsp baking powder
2 eggs
2 c all purpose flour
1/2 c milk
1 tsp vanilla
1 pint blueberries cleaned and rinsed (mash 1/2 c of the blues and fold into the whole berries)

Directions:
Directions:
Cream together shortening, sugar, and salt for approximately three minutes.
Add the baking powder and eggs, and mix well. Add the flour, milk, and vanilla and mix well again. Fold in the blueberries.

Preheat the oven to 450º. Grease and flour a 12 cup muffin pan. Fill the muffin cups to the top of the pan. Sprinkle a pinch of sugar on the top of each muffin.

Bake at 450º for five minutes. Drop the temperature to 375º and bake an additional 30-35 minutes until golden brown. Cool and remove muffins from pans. Makes 1 dozen.

Anyone who lived in Boston during the 50's, 60's, and 70's coveted these muffins. I'm not sure if this recipe is the original, but the muffins sure do taste like the originals. Enjoy!
