1 - 2 c. raisins
1/2 - 1 c. boiling water

1/2 - 1 c. butter (shortening)
1 - 2 c. sugar
2 - 3 eggs
1/2 - 1 tsp. vanilla
2 - 4 c. flour
1/2 - 1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 - 1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 - 1 tsp. salt
1/2 - 1 tsp. cinnamon
1/8 - 1/4 tsp. cloves
1/8 - 1/4 tsp. nutmeg
1/2 - 1 c. chopped nuts

Measurements are for 1/2 or whole recipe amounts.
Add boiling water to raisins & cook 5 minutes. Cool.

Cream butter & sugar. Add eggs & vanilla and beat until fluffy. Add cooled raisins to creamed mixture & mix thoroughly.
Sift flour. Measure & add salt, soda, baking powder & spices. Sift again. Add sifted dry ingredients & chopped nuts and blend well into mixture. Drop by teaspoonfuls onto greased baking sheet spaced 2-3" apart. Bake at 350º for 12-15 minutes. Full recipe yields 6 doz cookies.

Archie Bredin's favorite raisin cookie. For those who don't like whole raisins, I like to soak them in the boiling water in a blender. Puree when cool enough to do so. All the taste, but no visible raisins.
