Sandy's Baklava Recipe

about 1/2 pkg. phyllo pastry (sometimes called strudel leaves - find in frozen foods)
1 stick butter, melted
1 1/2 c. ground (not chopped) walnuts
1/2 t cinnamon
1/2 c honey
1/2 c water

Directions:
Directions:
Thaw phyllo according to pkg instructions.
Cut to fit 12 x 7" pan.
Butter pan, fit with one sheet of pastry.
Brush with melted butter.
Add 3 more sheets, brushing each with butter.
Sprinkle a thin layer of walnuts mixed with the cinnamon over pastry.
Repeat layers of pastry and nut mixture about 8 more times, ending with pastry.
Carefully make slits in crust.
Bake at 350º until golden brown (about 30 min).
Heat honey and water together with any leftover melted butter until very hot.
Carefully pour honey syrup over finished pastry.

I found this recipe on the back of a thank you card written circa 1983/1984. This was back before the internet and Google made it possible to find a recipe for just about anything you could want. When Sandy couldn't find the recipe she wanted, she made one up, and this is what she created. I did not correct/edit/change this recipe in anyway. It is just as it was written on the back of the card.
