1 c. chopped dates
1 tsp. soda
1 Tbsp. butter
1 c. boiling water

1 c. sugar
1 egg
1 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 c. nuts

Directions:
Directions:
Pre-heat oven to 325º. Pour boiling water over the dates, soda and butter.
After the dates soften, add the remaining ingredients. Bake in a 8 or 9" square pan. Bake for about 45 min.
Serve with ice cream or whipped cream.

Another old recipe from my mother. She made this often when I was growing up. Very dense and moist. Easy and good.
