Apple Dumpling Recipe

2 c. flour
4 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1 Tbsp. sugar
1/2 c. Crisco
3/4 c. milk
6 peeled apples
2/3 c. sugar
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
cinnamon to taste

Pre-heat oven to 350º. Spray a 9" x 13" pan.
Sift dry ingredients. Work in shortening. Add milk using enough to make a stiff dough. Roll out on floured surface to 1/4". Cut into 6 large squares.

Mix 2/3 c. sugar, nutmeg and cinnamon. Place one apple in the center of each square and sprinkle with sugar mixture. Moisten edges of pastry and pinch together to cover apple entirely. Bake until apples are tender when a knife is inserted into the dumpling. Depends on type of apple, 40 - 60 min.
Serve warm with milk, whipped cream or caramel sauce.

Another recipe from one of my mother's neighbors. Mrs. Lackey lived across the alley from my parents. This recipe is very good, tastes like apple pie, but a little more dramatic.
