1/2 c butter
1/4 c shortenings
1 c brown sugar
13/4 c flour
1 c oatmeal
1 t salt
1/2 t baking soda
1/2 c pecans (chop)

Filling
41/2 c tart apples (peeled and coarsely chopped)
3 T flour
1 pkg (14oz) caramels
3 T butter


Directions:
Directions:
In a mixing bowl, cream butter, shortening and brown sugar until fluffy. Add the flour, oats, salt and baking soda; mix well. Stir in pecans if desired. Set aside 2 cups. Press remaining oat mixture into the bottom of an ungreased 13x9x2" baking pan.

Filling
toss apples with flour; spoon over crust. In a saucepan, melt the caramels and butter over low heat drizzle over apples. Top with the reserved oat mixture. Bake at 400º for 25 to 30 min or till lightly browned. Cool before cutting into bars.
