1 c. butter
2 c. sugar
2 eggs
32 oz. of applesauce, (homemade is wonderful) 1 qt.
4 c. flour
3 tsp. soda
2 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. cloves
1/2 tsp. salt
1 c. chopped nuts
2 c. raisins

Vanilla Sauce:
1/2 c. sugar
2 Tbsp. corn starch
1/4 tsp. salt
2 c. boiling water
1/4 c. butter
2 tsp. vanilla
Dash nutmeg

Holiday Sauce:
Omit vanilla and spice. Add brandy, rum or sherry to taste.

Heat oven to 325
Cream butter and sugar. Add eggs, then applesauce. Add other ingredients. Pour into greased and floured tube pan. MUST BE TUBE PAN. Bake for 1 3/4 hours.

Sauce:
In saucepan, combine sugar, cornstarch, salt, gradually stir in water. Boil, stirring constantly, until thick. Add other ingredients.

Serve cake with sauce.
