1 tablespoon sugar
1-1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup sour cream
Half of a regular sized onion, thinly sliced
2 tablespoons white vinegar
4-1/2 cups cucumbers, peeled and thinly sliced

Directions:

Mix the dressing well and add to the cucumber-onion mixture. Let stand for at least 2 hours before serving. (Grandma noted that as you use up the cucumbers, just keep adding fresh ones to the dressing).

This yummy recipe always reminds me of hot summers spent at the farmhouse of my grandparents in Murdo, South Dakota. Those visits almost always included a trip to the Badlands, Wall Drug, or the Black Hills (or, if we were lucky, all three!). Not much to do in the heat in a small town like Murdo. Happily, our grandparents lived next to Graham's Motel. The Graham family had children our age, and - best of all - they had a swimming pool we could use!
