2 C. flour
2 C. sugar
½ C. shortening
1 C. water
½ C. margarine
3 T. cocoa
2 eggs, slightly beaten
1 t. soda
½ C. buttermilk
2 t. vanilla

Icing
½ C. butter
4 T. cocoa
6 T. milk
1 box confectioners' sugar
1 C. chopped pecans or walnuts
2 t. vanilla

Combine flour and sugar in a mixing bowl.

Bring shortening, margarine, water, and cocoa to a boil and pour over dry mixture.

Add eggs, buttermilk, soda, and vanilla. Mix well, pour into greased and floured 11x16-inch pan. Bake 25 minutes at 350°F.

Bring first three icing ingredients to a boil. Add confectioners' sugar and beat until smooth. Add nuts and vanilla. Spread over hot cake

I like to make this either the day before serving or early that day so the icing has a chance to really set up well. It cuts better that way. This is excellent cut into 1-inch squares for morning coffee or afternoon teas.
