2 C. sugar
½ C. corn syrup
⅓ t. salt
1½ C. water
½ t. vinegar
1 T. vanilla
5 quarts popped corn

Directions:
Directions:
Combine sugar, syrup, salt, and water in a heavy saucepan and stir until sugar is partially dissolved. Cook over low heat until syrup boils. Cover and cook 3 minutes. Uncover and boil, without stirring, until a small amount forms a hard ball when dropped in cold water or the mixture reaches 250°F on a candy thermometer. Add vinegar and vanilla; boil to 264°F or, when dropped into very cold water, it separates into threads that are hard but not brittle. Pour slowly over popcorn, using a spoon to turn corn so it will be evenly coated. Make into balls and let stand in a cold place until brittle. Wrap and store.
