2 1/2 c flour
1 1/2 c sugar
1 tsp salt
1 tsp cocoa
1 c buttermilk
1 1/2 c cooking oil
2 eggs
1 tsp vanilla
1 1-oz bottle of red food coloring
1 tsp vinegar
1 tsp soda

Heat oven to 325º. Grease and flour 3 9-inch round cake pans. Sift flour, sugar, salt, and cocoa together. Add buttermilk, oil, eggs, and vanilla to dry ingredients. Mix well. Blend in red food coloring. Finally, mix vinegar and soda together and blend into other mixture. Mix only until well blended. Pour into pans and bake 30-35 minutes. Cool. Frost with cream cheese frosting that is included in this cookbook. Add broken pecan pieces if desired.

When I was 14 years old, I baked this cake for my step father (Dave) to take to work for a "clothe a child" fund raiser at Lilly!!! I won 1st place and still have the Blue Ribbon to show all of you!!!
