1 lb. ground beef (chuck is best)
1 small green pepper diced
1 med. yellow onion diced
1 tbsp. oil
1 cup ketchup
3 tbsp. brown sugar
2 tbsp. lemon juice
2 tbsp. white vinegar
1 tbsp. Worchester sauce
1 tbsp. water

Directions:
Directions:
Brown the ground beef, drain the fat and set aside

saute the green pepper and onion in the oil till onion turns transparent
add all the other ingredients and let it simmer for about 15-20 minutes

you can leave it simmering until you are ready to serve

put on hamburger buns, taste good with potato chips on side

I always loved this as a kid and the St. Pete Times or maybe it was the Evening Independent had a section where people wrote in asking for recipes for food they had somewhere so my Grandma wrote in for the school cafeteria sloppy joe recipe and this was what was what they published. I still have the card she taped it to.

Not the most healthy dish but tastes so good and brings back memories,
