*5 Cups brand cereal
2 Cups boiling water
1 cup melted shortening (can substitute 2/3 oil or 2 sticks margarine)
1 Cup Butter or Margarine (2 sticks)
4 Eggs, beaten
1-quart buttermilk
5 cups unsifted flour
5 teaspoons soda
1 ½ teaspoons salt
½ cups nuts
½ cup raisins

*Raisin Bran, All-Bran, or Cracklin Bran mybe used. Cracklin Bran is especially good however it is best to crush or chop just a bit.

Put 2 cups bran in large bowl. Pour boiling water over it and let stand for a few minutes.

Blend in shortening. Mix remainder of bran with sugar, eggs, and buttermilk.

Sift together flour, soda, and alt.

Combine all ingredients, adding nuts and raisins last.

Cover and store in refrigerator overnight.

Batter will keep in refrigerator for six weeks.

Cook 400º for 20 minutes.
