3/4 c butter
1 c light brown sugar
1 c milk
3 c sifted white flour
1 tsp baking soda
2 tsp cream of tartar
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp nutmeg
3/4 c dried fruit (raisins, currants, mixed peel)

Directions:
Directions:
Heat oven to 375º F.
In large bowl cream together butter and brown sugar. Beat in milk. Sift together all dry ingredients, and with beaters on low, add flour mixture gradually. Stir in the dried fruit.
Drop using a heaped tablespoon onto greased cookie sheets, about 2 inches apart as they will spread.
Bake 10 to 12 minutes, and watch closely to prevent over cooking.
