1 cup white sugar
1 cup light brown sugar
1 scant cup Crisco (may use part butter)

optional: 1/2 cup nuts
optional: chocolate bits

Directions:
Directions:
Cream shortening and sugars, add eggs and vanilla, beat well. Sift soda, salt and flour together several times. Gradually beat in flour mixture until blended. Stir in nuts and chocolate chips, if using. Drop by spoonfuls onto greased cookie sheets. Bake at 350 degrees for approximately 11 minutes.
P.S. I think all butter or margarine should be fine.

Personal Notes:
Personal Notes:
Much is made of Grandma Gribbell's sugar cookies, but these oatmeal cookies have always been my favorite. She usually had sugar cookies and rolled oats cookies on hand. I don't ever remember her adding the nuts or chocolate chips. They don't need either one!
