2 c sifted flour
4 t baking powder
1 t salt
2 t sugar
1/2 t cream of tarter
1/3 c shortening (Crisco)
2/3-3/4 c. milk

Directions:
Directions:
Sift dry ingredients together. Cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Add milk all at once. Stir until dough follows the fork. Turn on a floured surface and knead gently 8 - 10 times. Roll out dough to 1-inch thick. Cut with floured biscuit cutter. Bake on ungreased sheet at 450º 10-12 minutes.

Karen S Note: I just formed the biscuits by hand and dropped them on the baking sheet. Of course, they mounded instead of being flat then. They should have the consistency of pie dough. I must have made them large because I only had 9. They baked in 12 min., but my oven is a little fast. Test by tapping the top. If they shake, they aren't done even if they are browned.
