small cucumbers
dill heads
garlic cloves (optional)




Brine:
1/2 tsp. saccharine
1/2 tsp. alum
1/2 cup pickling salt
1 cup white sugar
4 cups water
4 cups white vinegar

Directions:
Directions:
Wash and dry cucumbers and remove stems and blossom ends. Pack in sterile jars. Add dill and garlic (if using).
Mix brine ingredients together and bring to a boil. Pour hot brine over top cucumbers and seal jars.

Cucumbers and jars should be room temperature to promote sealing of jars.See Edith's (Ultimate dill pickle) recipe for instructions on how to achieve this. Mom made these on the farm. They are sweeter than Edith's (see next recipe). Pickling salt does not contain iodine
