1 gallon cucumber; peeled, sliced, and seeds removed
3/4 cup lime to 1 gallon cold water to cover cucumbers
1/2 cup vinegar
1 small bottle red food coloring
1 tbsp. alum

Syrup:
2 cups vinegar
1 package red hots
5 1/2 cups sugar
6 cinnamon sticks

Directions:
Peel, slice, and remove seeds of cucumbers. Add lime and 1 gallon cold water to cover cucumbers. Let stand 24 hours stirring a few times. Drain and wash good then soak in clear cold water for 3 hours. Drain. Add 1/2 cup vinegar, food coloring, 1 tbsp. Alum to the water that covers the cucumber. Summer for 2 hours. Do not boil. Drain.

Make following syrup:
You will need the water, red hots, sugar, and cinnamon sticks .

Boil to make syrup and pour over cucumbers. Let stand over night.

For 3 days reheat syrup and pour over cucumbers. On 4th day heat syrup to boil. Put cucumbers in jars put scant amount of alum to jar, pour syrup over then put seal type lids on jars. Let the jars sit until totally cool. Ads they cool you should hear a popping sound that signals they are sealed. If they do not seal put in the refrigerator. Let set at least a few weeks to let the cucumbers flavor through.
