1 C milk

1 C granulated sugar

½ C vegetable shortening (specifically Crisco)

½ C butter

1 to 2 t vanilla, to taste

Directions:
Directions:
Heat milk until bubbles just form around the edge of the pan. Add sugar and stir to dissolve. Set aside to cool.

Beat Crisco and butter with an electric mixer until very creamy. Reduce
speed to low and very gradually add the milk.

Add the vanilla and beat ten minutes on high; mixture should be the
consistency of whipped cream.

Makes about 1 ¾ cups – enough to frost one standard layer cake or 9x13 sheet cake. Recipe may be doubled or tripled.

Personal Notes:
Personal Notes:
don’t know why one couldn’t use other flavorings, or even powdered cocoa.
It is so light and fluffy – I normally don’t care much for white frosting –
too sweet and bland – but this is pretty yummy
