3/4 c. butter
32 oz. frozen hash brown potatoes (completely thawed)
1 c. shredded cheddar cheese
1/2 c. onion, chopped fine
1 can Cream of Chicken soup
8 oz. sour cream
2 c. crushed corn flakes + 1/2 c. melted butter for topping

Directions:

Mix all ingredients except topping, pour into greased casserole.

Cover with topping, bake uncovered at 350º for 50 minutes. Let stand 5 minutes before serving.

You can make this ahead of time and bake later. Just don't mix the butter and crushed corn flakes until it's time to bake. Put those on when ready to bake so they don't get soggy.
