Directions:Cake: Combine butter, sugar, eggs, vanilla and cocoa. Add milk and water; add flour and soda. Pour into greased and floured 9 x 13 inch pan. Bake at 350º for 30 minutes. Cool; flip cake onto a cookie sheet that has been greased and floured also. This will prevent the cake from sticking to the pan. Take a piece of sewing thread and gently slice the cake lengthwise. Very carefully lift the top section back into your 9 x 13 inch pan. Add filling between the two halves; frost cake; and keep refrigerated before and after serving.
Filling: Mix flour and water; cook until it forms a paste. Cool. (I put it into the refrigerator while I'm doing the next steps.) Mix all other ingredients until fluffy.; add to cooled paste and whip again.
Frosting: Melt butter in saucepan. Stir in cocoa until dissolved; add powdered sugar, warm milk and vanilla. Do not over cook.
*Best flavor if made 24 hours in advance of serving. |
