"Plain fresh bread, its crust shatteringly crisp. Sweet cold butter. There is magic in the way they come together in your mouth to make a single perfect bite."--Ruth Reichl

Ingredients:
Ingredients:
Loaf of Homemade bread
9 eggs
1 1/2 cups milk
ham slices
cheese slices
butter
onions
peppers - color your choice

Directions:
Directions:
Trim crust from 12 slices of homemade bread (my homemade bread )
Butter both sides and put 6 slices in a 9 x 13 stoneware baker (can use a glass baking dish but I prefer the stoneware)
Top with ham sliced thin (the more the better it will be.)
Add cheese slices. (I also like to add a slice of cheese to the bottom and top with ham in the middle of the cheese sandwiched between your bread.)
After you have assembled that:
Beat 9 eggs and add 1 1/2 cups milk; salt & pepper; onion; and chopped green/red/orange/yellow peppers (whatever kind you like or have) and pour that mixture over the top.
Make the night before!
Bake at 350º for at least and hour. Cook until bubbly and golden brown on top. Bake uncovered.

Personal Notes:
We would always serve this on Christmas morning along with my homemade muffins and fruit smoothies. Served on the snowmen dinnerware and our fancy snowmen glasses. We would use Grandma Marge's fine silerware. Such precious memories.
