Ingredients:  
2 cups white sauce (see below)
1 ¼ cups shredded cheddar cheese
Salt and pepper to taste
6 medium potatoes, peeled and sliced thin
2 tablespoons melted butter
In saucepan make white sauce

WHITE SAUCE
4 Tablespoons butter
4 Tablespoons flour
Salt and pepper to taste
2 cups milk
In saucepan over medium heat, melt butter, Whisk in the flour, salt and pepper
Gradually add the milk, and bring to a boil, cook for about 2 minutes until thick and smooth


Then in a baking dish
Layer the potatoes, then cheese, salt and pepper
Pour some of the white sauce over it, then repeat
The layers again

Cook at 350 degrees for about an hour, until potatoes are soft.
Every 15 minutes stir the potatoes

Side note: you may add sliced onions as well, just add them to the layers
