1 1/2 cups flour
2 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. allspice
1/2 tsp nutmeg
1/4 tsp cloves
1/2 cup shortening
1 cup sugar
1/2 tsp vanilla
2 eggs
3/4 cup milk

Directions:
Directions:
Sift flour, baking powder, salt & spices thoroughly to blend. Cream shortening until fluffy, gradually add sugar, mixing until creamy. Add vanilla & eggs one at a time beating until well blended after each addition.
Add dry ingredients alternately with milk, starting and ending with the dry ingredients.
Grease and lightly flour an 8x8x2 pan or two 8 inch pans.
Bake at 350F for 45-50 minutes.
