Brownies
1 stick butter, melted (1/2 Cup)
1 cup sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 eggs, beaten
1/2 cup all purpose flour
1/3 cup cocoa
1/4 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup chopped nuts (optional)

Topping
2/3 cup sugar
3 Tablespoons milk
3 Tablespoons butter
1/2 cup semi sweet chocolate pieces

Directions:

Preheat oven to 350º. Grease a 9 inch square baking dish. Stir together butter, sugar, and vanilla. Add eggs, and beat well with a spoon. Stir together flour, cocoa, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add to flour mixture, beating until well blended. Stir in nuts if desired. Spread batter evenly in prepared pan. Bake 20 - 25 minutes or until brownies begin to pull away from sides of pan. Cool completely in pan on wire rack. Prepare topping, by mixing together sugar, butter, and milk in a sauce pan and bring to a boil for 30 seconds. Remove from heat and add chocolate pieces, stirring until melted. Spread topping over brownies. Cut into squares. Makes 16 brownies.
