JAR INGREDIENTS:
3/4 cup dry split peas
1/3 cup beef or chicken bouillon granules
1/4 cup pearl barley
3/4 cup dry lentils
1/2 tsp. curry powder
2 teaspoons dried Italian seasoning
1/2 cup uncooked long-grain white rice
2 bay leaves
1/2 cup uncooked alphabet pasta or orzo

In a 1 1/2 pint jar, layer the split peas, bouillon, barley, lentils, Italian seasoning, curry powder, rice, and bay leaves. Wrap the pasta separately in plastic wrap, and place in the jar. Seal tightly.
FRIENDSHIP SOUP ADDITIONAL INGREDIENTS:
2 pound browned ground beef or 1 cooked, shredded chicken
1 onion and garlic clove sautéed in olive oil
1-14 oz. can diced tomatoes - undrained
1-28 oz. can crushed tomatoes
Chopped celery (3 stalks)
Sliced carrots (4 or 5)
1 can corn - drained
3 quarts water or vegetable or meat stock/broth
Salt and black pepper to tast.

TO PREPARE SOUP: Remove pasta from top of jar, and set aside. Sauté onion, celery, carrots and garlic in olive oil. Add tomatoes, meat, water and soup mix EXCEPT for the pasta and corn. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low. Cover, and simmer for 45 minutes. Stir in the pasta and corn, cover - simmer 15 to 20 minutes, or until the pasta, peas, lentils and barley are tender. Freezes well.
