1/2 c softened butter
3/4 to 1 c sugar
2 eggs
2 t vanilla
1-1/2 c all-purpose flour
1/2 t baking powder
1/4 t salt
2/3 c cold milk
Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350º
Cream butter and sugar. Add eggs 1 at a time, beating after each addition. Stir in vanilla.
In a separate bowl, stir together all dry ingredients. Add to butter mixture; stir in milk.

Bake for 18-24 minutes. Makes 12 cupcakes.

I have searched for at least 15 years for a cake recipe that tastes like Mom's homemade cakes - the ones she made when we were kids. I had almost given up, until Audrey and I stumbled on this one. She made the cupcakes, I whipped up some buttercream icing (pink, of course), Audrey piped it on top (way beyond my capabilities), and they were the best cupcakes I've taskted in about 50 years!! Mom came over today and had one - she agreed!!
