For Cake
1 ½ c. veg oil
2 c. sugar
4 eggs
3 c. flour
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. soda
2 tsp. vanilla
3 large very tart apples (4cups) cut into small pieces
1 ¾ c. chopped pecans or walnuts or some of each
Sauce
1 stick butter
2 tbsp. rum
½ c. light brown sugar firmly packed

Directions:
Directions:
Combine veg oil, sugar and eggs for 3 min at medium speed. Add flour sifted with salt & soda. Add vanilla and be sure entire mixture is blended well. Fold in chopped apples and nuts. Bake in tube cake pan, which is well greased and floured for 1 hour and 20 minutes at 325. Cool 20 minutes and pour on the following sauce while still hot.

For the Sauce:
In a double boiler bring to a boil and cook 20 minutes. While still hot, pour on cake. It will be thin and will soak into cake.
