1 package dry yeast
1 c. warm water (105* - 115*)
2 T. sugar
1 t. salt
1 egg
1 T. shortening
2 3/4 c. flour
1 egg white
1 T. water
poppy seeds (or sesame seeds)

Directions:
Directions:
Dissolve yeast in 1 c. warm water. Add sugar, salt, egg, shortening and 1 cup of the flour. Beat until smooth. Stir in remaining flour; continue stirring until smooth. Scrape batter from side of bowl. Cover; let dough rise in warm place until double, about 30 minutes. Stir down batter; turn onto floured surface. Divide into 12 equal parts. Shape each into a smooth ball with lightly greased fingers. Place in greased 9" square pan. Let rise until double, 20 - 30 minutes. Beat egg white and 1 T. water slightly; brush over rolls. Sprinkle with poppy seeds. Bake at 400* about 15 minutes, until golden brown.
