1 gallon water
1 cup pickling spice
Cucumbers
1 T. alum

Wash and slice cucumbers, place in crock and cover with above ingredients and let soak for 1 week. Skim, drain and rinse.
Soak the cucumbers in cold water overnight with 1 T. Alum dissolved in water. Drain and rinse.

Place cucumbers in large pot with water to cover and 1 T. ginger. Boil for 10 minutes (NO MORE). Put the pickles back in crock and let stand for 24 hours. Drain and rinse.

In large saucepan boil the next 6 ingredients for 20 minutes and pour over the pickles in the cock.

6 cups sugar
4 cups vinegar
1 T. celery seed
2 T. mixed pickling spice
1 T. salt
2 cups water

For the next 3 mornings, drain the juice off the pickles and heat and pour back over the pickles.

On the fourth morning place the pickles in sterilized jars and fill with the heated juice and seal
