Ingredients: 1 1/2 c. sugar, divided 1 T. cinnamon 2 c. flour 1 t. baking soda 1/2 t. salt 1 c. buttermilk 1 egg 1/4 c. vegetable oil
Glaze: 1/4 c. powdered sugar 1 1/2 to 2 t. milk

Directions:Combine 1/2 c. sugar and cinnamon; set aside. Combine flour, baking soda, salt and remaining sugar. Combine buttermilk, egg and oil; stir into dry ingredients just until combined. Grease an 9" x 5" x 3" loaf pan. Pour half of the batter into pan; sprinkle with half of the cinnamon-sugar. Carefully spread the remaining batter and sprinkle with remaining cinnamon-sugar; swirl knife through batter. Bake at 350º for 45-50 minutes or until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clan. Cool in pan 10 minutes before removing to a wire rack to cool completely. Combine glaze ingredients; drizzle over bread. |

Notes: Buy a pint of buttermilk and double the recipe. BUT do in separate bowls - over stirring makes the bread tough. If there isn't quite enough buttermilk measured out, milk can be used to top the measuring cup off. Using whole wheat flour makes it too dense and doesn't bake all the way through and bread is tough where it does get baked.
Tastes just as good without the glaze.
