4 c. chopped/small fruit
1 c. water
2 tbsp. lemon juice
1 ¼ c. sugar
⅓ c. cornstarch

Crumble Topping
½ c. sugar
½ c. flour
¼ butter
½ c. chopped pecans

Cake
3 c. flour
1 c. sugar
1 tbsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. cinnamon
¼ tsp. mace
1 c. butter
2 eggs, lightly beaten
1 c. milk
1 tsp. vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Filling: In saucepan combine fruit and water. Simmer, covered, about 5 minutes or till fruit is tender. Stir in lemon juice. Mix the cornstarch and sugar separately, then add to fruit. Cook and stir till thick and bubbly. Cool.

Cake: stir together flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, cinnamon and mace. Cut in butter till mixture resembles fine crumbs. Combine eggs, milk and vanilla separately, then add to dry ingredients, mixing till blended.

Spread half of the batter in a greased 13x9x2 inch baking pan. Spread the cooled fruit mixture over the batter. Spoon the remaining batter in small mounds over the fruit, spreading out as much as possible.

Topping: Combine sugar and flour, then cut in the butter till mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in the nuts. Sprinkle topping over batter.

Bake at 350º for 45-50 minutes or till cake tests done.
