1 1/2 lb. of ham loaf mix from butcher. Should include ham, and pork. No added apices or sugar,, etc.
scant 1.2 c. brown sugar
1/2 c. cracker meal ( this could be crushed saltines)
1 egg
1/2 tsp. pepper
2/3 c. milk

Directions:
Directions:
Heat oven to 350º. Mix all ingredients except milk. Add enough milk to moisten, but make sure loaf will hold it's shape. Bake for an hour and check for doneness. I like it cooked long enough to have dark crunchy edges on the loaf.

This is the classic recipe from Niles and Winifred Shellito. We grew up eating this baked in a special well in their electric stove. It made the outside of the loaf really crunchy, Wonderful. Notice , no pineapple or ugly cherries!! They were purists. This a great recipe for any occasion.
