"A man who was fond of wine was offered some grapes at dessert after dinner. "Much obliged," said he, pushing the plate aside; "I am not accustomed to take my wine in pills."--Jean Antheleme Brillat-Savarin, The Physiology of Taste

Ingredients:
Ingredients:
1 C butter
2 C sugar
1 C buttermilk
2 T corn syrup
2 t baking soda
1-1/2 t vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Buttermilk substitute - pour 1 T white vinegar into a 1 cup measuring cup. Fill the rest of the way up with milk (I use 2% or whole to make it thick) and let sit for 5 minutes.

In a large pot combine butter, sugar, buttermilk, and corn syrup. Bring to a boil, and boil for 3 minutes. Remove from heat and add baking soda. Add the vanilla. Mixture will thicken as it cools down. Serve on pancakes, waffles, French toast, or scones.

Personal Notes:
Personal Notes:
We alternate between this syrup and Grandma Dot's coconut syrup. It is DELICIOUS. Also, be sure and use a large pot. Bigger than you think you'll need! The baking soda makes the syrup bubble, and it will easily bubble over the sides!
