2 2/3 c. sifted flour (sift before measuring)
1/2 tsp. salt
2/3 c. shortening (do not substitute)6 oz. semi-sweet chocolate chips
2 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1 lb. brown sugar
3 large eggs
1 c. nuts (optional)

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350º. Grease a 9x13 cake pan.
In medium bowl, whisk together the flour, salt, and baking powder, set aside.
In large bowl, cream shortening & brown sugar. When well combined, add in eggs - beat first.
Once well combined, stir in flour mixture - mix well.
Fold in chocolate chips and nuts.

Pour batter into a greased pan and place on the center rack of the preheated oven. Bake for 25 - 30 minutes. Remove from oven and let cool before cutting into 2 inch squares.
