1 c unsalted butter
1 c sugar
1 tsp vanilla
2 eggs
3 c flour
Dash salt
Grated peel from 1 orange (1-1/2 tbl)
1 tsp orange extract
Yellow and red food coloring
Grated peel from 2 lemons (2-3 tsp)
1 tsp lemon extract
Orange and yellow sanding sugar

Preheat oven 400º
Beat butter, sugar, vanilla and eggs with electric mixer on medium low speed. Add flour and salt; beat until soft, no sticky dough forms without it sticking to your fingers. If dough is sticky, beat in an additional 1 tbl spoon of flour until dough is right consistency.

On work surface, shape dough into a ball. Divide into 3 equal portions. Return 1/3 of dough to bowl; beat in Orange peel, orange extract and drops of yellow and red food coloring to reach orange. Remove from bowl and wrap in plastic.

Take another 1/3 of dough and beat in lemon peel, lemon extract and drops of yellow food coloring. Remove from bowl and wrap in plastic.

Cover remaing 1/3 with plastic. Chill all for 1 hour

Shape the orange and yellow dough into a roll about 5 inches long and 2-1/2 inches in diameter. On lightly floured surface roll plain dough into a rectangle. Place the orange on plain dough and roll it around the orange dough. Place orange sanding sugar on a plate roll dough log in it. Wrap and refrigerate. Repeat with yellow. Refrigerate for 4 hours.

Cut chilled logs into 1/8-1/4 inch thick rounds. With back edge of knife, score segments lines into each round. Cut in half. Bake 6-8 minutes
