Bartlett pears, peeled, cored and halved (24 to 36 medium)
1 batch hot light syrup (below)

Directions:
Prepare quart jars and lids for canning.

To prepare syrup combine 2 granulated sugar and 5 cups water in a stainless steel saucepan. Bring to a boil over medium heat stirring until sugar is dissolved. Reduce heat to low to keep warm until needed.

Pack pears into hot jars to within a inch of top of jar. Ladle hot syrup into hot jar to cover pears, leaving a inch headspace. Remove air bubbles. Wipe rim. Apply lid and band until tight. Process jars in boiling water canner for 25 minutes. Remove jars and cool. Check lids to ensure seal after 24 hours.
