1 c. flour
2 t. baking powder
pinch of salt
3/4 c. sugar
2 T. cocoa
1/2 c. milk
1 t. vanilla
2 T. shortening, melted
3/4 c. nuts, chopped

Topping:
3/4 c. brown sugar
4 T. cocoa
1 3/4 c. hot water

Directions:

Batter:
Sift together flour, baking powder, salt, sugar and cocoa. Stir together milk, vanilla and melted shortening and add to dry ingredients. Add nuts and pour batter into greased pan (9" square).

Topping:
Mix brown sugar and cocoa together and sprinkle over batter. Pour the hot water over all. Bake at 350* for 40 minutes. The batter will rise to the top with sauce beneath. Serve with whipped cream or hard sauce.
