1 c oatmeal
1 1/2 c boiling water.
Stir together and set aside to cool.

1 c flour
1 1/2 c sugar
1/2 c cocoa
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 c veg shortening ( or veg oil)
1 tsp vanilla
2 eggs

Directions:
Combine dry ingredients and add oatmeal mixed with shortening and vanilla.
Beat with mixer on low speed for 2 min. Add eggs and beat for another 2 min.
Bake in a 9x13 pan @350 for 30 min.

Icing:
3 tbsp. melted butter 1/4 cup milk
4 tbsp. cocoa 1/2 tsp vanilla
2 c icing sugar 1/4 tsp salt
Combine and ice cake - keep refrigerate
