Spice Cake Recipe

1/2 c. shortening
1 c. sugar
2 eggs
1/3 c. molasses
2 1/2 c. flour
2 1/2 t. baking powder
3/4 t. cloves
3/4 t. allspice
3/4 c. milk
1/4 t. salt

Butterscotch frosting:
1 1/4 c. brown sugar
3/4 c. sugar
2/3 c. water
2 T. butter
2 egg whites, beaten
1 t. vanilla

Cream shortening, add eggs and sugar. Beat in molasses. Add dry ingredients alternately with milk. Pour into 2 greased layer pans. Bake at 350*. Cool. Frost with butterscotch frosting.

Butterscotch Frosting:
Cook sugar and water to firm ball (244*). Add butter. Pour over egg whites, add vanilla.
