4-5 dozen cucumbers about 5 inches long
2 cups salt
1 gallon water
1 heaping tsp alum


(Pickling Syrup)

2 quarts apple cider vinegar
6 quarts sugar
1 ounce celery seed
1 ounce stick cinnamon
1 ounce whole cloves

Directions:
Directions:
Wash cucumbers and put in brine for 1 week. Be sure pickles are covered with brine by covering with a plate and weight. Drain then cover with boiling water, then leave overnight. Drain, cover with boiling water to which alum has been added. Let stand overnight. Drain then add boiling water and let stand till cool. Drain, then add pickling syrup.

For syrup, combine all ingredients in sauce pan and heal to boiling point. Pour over pickles, let stand overnight. Drain and reheat pickling syrup. For the next 4 days, each day, drain and reheat syrup and pour over pickles and let stand overnight, then can in sterilized jars.
