Ingredients:
Ingredients:
1 c. butter
1 c. granulated sugar
1 c. powdered sugar
2 well beaten eggs
1 tsp. salt
1 c. salad oil
1 tsp. vanilla
4 c. plus 4 tbsp. sifted All Purpose flour
1 tsp. soda
1 tsp. Cream of Tartar
1/2 c. granulated sugar (for pressed cookies only)

Directions:
Directions:
Cream butter and the two sugars. Beat eggs and salt together and work into butter-sugar mixture. Then stir in the oil and vanilla. Sift flour (also sifted before measuring), soda, and cream of tartar together and blend into the butter mixture until smooth. Break off small pieces of dough (with small spoon or with fingers) the size of a walnut. Roll each in a ball between palms and place an inch apart on a greased cookie sheet. Put 1/2 cup granulated sugar in a small sauce dish. Lightly oil or butter the based of a glass tumbler about 2 1/2" in diameter. A sunburst pattern cut into the bottom of a tumbler imprints with a pretty pattern, so use one of these, if possible. Dip the greased base on the sugar, then press down on each ball of dough to desired thickness. The oil sugar coating on the tumbler will prevent the dough from sticking and also lightly distribute sugar on the surfaces. After the first or second cookie pressing base will pick up enough oil from the dough, then only a dip into the sugar is necessary before each pressing. Bake cookies at 350º for approximately 8-10 minutes.
