2 c. shortening
2 c. sugar
2 eggs
1 c. milk
1/2 t. salt
4 t. cream of tarter
2 t. soda
6 - 7 c. flour

Date filling:
1 box (16 oz.) dates
1 c. sugar
1 c. water

Raisin filling:
1 1/2 c. raisins
1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. nuts, chopped
1/2 c. water
1 T. flour

Directions:
Directions:
Cream shortening and sugar. Add eggs and then milk alternately with dry ingredients. Add enough flour to roll. Roll and cut. Place on greased cookie sheets, fill each round with desired filling; place another round on top. Bake at 350* for 12 - 15 minutes.

Fillings:
Combine all ingredients for either filling. Cook over medium heat until it thickens. Cool.
