1/2 c. margarine
2/3 c. sugar
1/3 c. molasses
1 egg
1 t. lemon extract
2 T. orange juice
1/2 T. orange rind
1 3/4 c. flour
1/4 t. soda
1/2 t. salt
1 t. nutmeg
1 t. baking powder
1/2 c. raisins
1/2 c. dates, chopped
1/2 c. nuts, chopped
2/3 c. candid fruit

Directions:
Directions:
Cream butter; add sugar and stir till fluffy. Stir in molasses and lemon extract; add beaten egg; and mix well. Add orange juice and peel; mix. Blend in dry ingredients, raisins, dates, nuts and fruit. Mix well. Spread thinly in 12x15 greased pan. Bake at 350* for 15 - 20 minutes. Cool and dust top with conf. sugar.

Evelyn made these bars every year at Christmas. Mom and I (Maxine) ate the whole batch ourselves, because everyone thought that they were fruitcake made into bars. We were quite happy with them thinking that, as they are delicious.
