5 c flour (2 1/2)
3/4 c shortening (1/4 + 1/8)
1 tsp baking soda (1/2)
1 tsp salt (1/2)
2 c buttermilk (1)
3 tsp baking powder (1 1/2)
1 tbsp yeast
1/2 c lukewarm water (1/4)
3 tbsp sugar (11/2)

Directions:
Directions:
Dissolve yeast in water. Sift dry ingredients together. Cut in shortening with a pastry blender until well mixed. Add buttermilk and yeast. Work into flour. Grease a large bowl. Put dough into bowl, making sure all sides are covered with oil, cover and place into refrigerator until ready to use. Take dough out as needed and roll 1/2 inch thick on a lightly floured surface. Cut with biscuit cutter. Place on lightly greased baking sheet. Cover and let rise. Brush tops with butter. Bake at 400 degrees for 10 to 15 minutes.

This was one of Mom's biscuit recipes. She does not state in her recipe but this dough, if kept in the refrigerator, would keep for probably one week. These are a tasty alternative to regular biscuits--the yeast gives a them a little different taste and texture. The amounts listed in the () are for halving the recipe. Notice the amount of yeast stays the same.
