2 c brown sugar

In a heavy saucepan, combine water and brown sugar. Bring to a boil and then reduce heat. Simmer until the mixture reduces and has the consistency of syrup. Serve hot syrup over warm biscuits. NOTE: More brown sugar may be needed to reach desired thickness.

The above recipe was Grandma Deaton's syrup recipe. The following recipe is the one that Mom used when she made homemade maple syrup:
For maple syrup: 1 cup light brown sugar, 2 cups light corn syrup, 1 cup water, maple flavoring, 2 tablespoons butter
Combine sugar, corn syrup and water in heavy saucepan over medium heat. Cook and stir until sugar dissolves. Remove from heat. Add a few drops of maple flavoring and 2 tablespoons of butter. Serve warm.
