Ingredients:
Ingredients:
1 box devil's food cake
1 can of chocolate frosting

FILLING
8 oz. regular cream cheese, softened
8 oz. Cool Whip
1 lb. powdered sugar (about 4.5 cups)

Directions:
Directions:
Bake the devil's food cake in 2 round 8" cake pans as directed on the box. Allow the cakes to cool, then slice each cake in half horizontally, for a total of 4 layers. Mix together the filling ingredients until smooth and slightly sticky. The cream cheese must be softened. The easiest way to do this is to allow it to reach room temperature outside the fridge, or place on top of the stove while cakes are baking. Assemble the layers with cake on the bottom and top: cake, filling, cake, filling, cake, filling, cake. Heat the chocolate frosting in the microwave for about 40 seconds. Adjust time as necessary for your microwave strength. It needs to be able to pour slowly over the top of the cake. Pour the frosting on the top of the cake and spread evenly. You can choose to spread the frosting evenly over the sides or just let the frosting run down the sides. This recipe is best when made early and refrigerated for a few hours or overnight.

Note: If you can, refrigerate the layered cake without the chocolate frosting until really cold. The cake will be easier to ice when it is cold. After icing, place back in the fridge and allow to cool the icing.

Personal Notes:
This is the traditional dessert that my grandmother always made for the Wright family Christmas gatherings. It was always a favorite in our family, and Jordan and I had it at our wedding reception.
