Ingredients:
Ingredients:
1 lb. beef, cubed into 1" pieces (Any good stew cuts. Rib-eye, if on sale, is really good.)
1 tsp. garlic salt
1 tsp. pepper or steak seasoning
1/2 onion, diced
3-4 garlic cloves, minced
2 medium potatoes, cubed into 1" pieces
2 large carrots, sliced
2 stalks celery, sliced
1 apple, shredded (prefer Fuji)
1" ginger, shredded with grater
1-1 1/2 box of Japanese curry cubes (prefer mild)
1-2 c. milk
4 pieces of chocolate (prefer Cadbury but any chocolate works)
2 tbsp. Japanese panko flakes
Enough water to cover the ingredients after adding the milk
2 tbsp. sake, if have on hand

Directions:
Directions:
Place all ingredients in the slow cooker (aka crock pot) in order ingredients are listed and cook on high heat for about 8 hours. Check periodically to determine if slow cooker should be turned down to low setting. If you don't have a slow cooker, you can cook this in a large pot on the stove similar to other stews.

Personal Notes:
Personal Notes:
This is a favorite in the Hankins household. This is something that can be prepared in the morning and be ready for dinner and is great for the weekends. The house smells of curry comfort food. Lisa based this recipe on one she got from a friend from Japan.
